Edwards, originally from Highlands Ranch, Colorado, was a standout middle distance star for the Oklahoma State Cowboys. In 2016, she won the NCAA Indoor title in the mile and in 2017, she set a new OSU record in the mile, running 4:28.75.
After finishing her collegiate career, Kaela turned pro and moved back to her home state of Colorado to train with 3000m Steeplechase World Champion Emma Coburn. It’s clear that the new training environment is working: in February 2018, Kaela finished third at the USA Indoor Championships in Albuquerque and set a new lifetime best at the USA Outdoor Championships in Des Moines.
After missing most of the 2019 season with injury, Kaela opened her 2020 campaign in excellent form, finishing second in the 800m at the 2020 USATF Indoor Championships, the best placing of her career at a senior USA Championships.
